Sako Info

I have a Sako 270 rifle which belonged to my Uncle and trying to determine the model & age.
The serial #is preceeded by what I think is "AV" although it's hard to make out as it's in script or something similar, the number 111687 appears after that and is also on the bolt.
It has no barrel sight and is blued. The stock is checkered on both the pistol grip and the forearm, the forearm end is ebony as is the pistol grip cap with a white diamond shape design with black scroll inside of the diamond.
It has an internal magazine with a trap door type release. There is no engraving on the rifle.
Any help would be appreciated........

Do to the U.S. import/customs laws all foreign made manufactured goods, have to be marked with the country of origin.

If it isn't marked Finland, ( remove the stock to see if there are any markings on the receiver or barrel, concealed by the stock. ) It might have been brought in by a GI who purchased it at a rod and gun club. Or a private party, just bringing in a barreled action.

If you can't find any markings under the stock. Post some quality photos, one of our folks might be able to recognize the model.

EDIT #1, The location of the caliber appears puzzling? Most of the time on standard factory made rifles, it's right at the wood line. Between the ebony forend and pistol grip, and the location of the caliber. Appears it has been extensively customized and not factory original.

I'm guessing early 1974. That is a great rifle chambered for a great cartridge. I have a couple L61R from that era (a .30/06 and a 7 Rem. Mag.) Sako fooled around a lot with serial #'s but I think 1974 is close.

    Magic 51,

If the designation is 'AV', it is an A V (5) model:

    1979/80 AV/L61R .25-06 Rem, 6.5x55, .270 Win, 7x64, .30-06, 9,3x62 Long tang

1979/80 AV Mag/L61R Magnum 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .300 Wby, .338 Win Mag, .375 H&H, .416 Rem Mag .458 Win Mag has been produced on special order

This is the .pdf list of older Sako models and dates:

    Best.

It is marked Made in Finland, I have seen others on the guns for sale section with the same "AV" but they are all marked immediately with a Model #......this one just has the serial number. The ebony at the end of the forearm, & the ebony pistol grip have me stumped.
    Thanks for the information anyway.
One other thing, it has the 270 stamp on the barrel top dead center just ahead of the receiver.

The caliber marking transversely across the barrel just ahead of the receiver is typical of Sako.
