what is the best way to send money from Canada to the US? Im selling a gun to a man up there and he is saying hes having trouble with Western Union?

I have received money through Moneygram many times and never had an issue and there are at least a dozen supermarkets in my area which handle them. Up in Canada many supermarkets and some Post Offices will send Moneygrams to the USA.
oops read that wrong.
Royal Bank of Canada has a presence in both the US & Canada; I KNOW that they can arrange the transfer of funds.
I'm starting to get an uneasy feeling about your sale. Western Union does this type transaction all the time. They have no problem getting money to Nigeria, Canada should be routine.

EDIT: Rex, there have been problems with stolen & forged MoneyGram MO's; I suggest that you cash it at a location that sells them before shipping (do NOT deposit it at your own bank).
EDIT 2: Problems with import duty or permits are not Rex's problems; he will ship the gun to the buyer's US Agent (an FFL). Everything else is between the US Agent & the foreign buyer.
EDIT 3: The charges are really not that bad. At least, he didn't have to get it mutilated with an importer marking.
After doing this once, it is not so bad. Just a shame that it adds so much to the cost.
Here's how it worked out:
Shipping to the Exporter from me 45.00
Export Fee - charged by exporter 200.00
Shipping to Canada import faciilithy 25.00
Shippping to the mans house in Canada 20.00
Canadian import Taxes 5% of 2300 115.00
Money Gram fee 120.00
total 525.00
Of course the orignal shipping was going to happen anyway.
Still mostly painless and now a man who wanted an Old Winchester has it.
Thanks for all the help
OK, It looks like it all is going fine. I recieved the money gram. It came to the Walmart and they gave me cash. The gun was shipped to the Export FFL dealer, who will send it to Canada.

I find the MoneyGram fee ($120?!?) downright insulting, but otherwise things seemed fairly reasonable.......j/s
