I am wondering if it could possibly be the spring that is in the stock in a tube?
I have not a clue of how any thing could go wrong with that..

1100's use a pretty simple gas system. You haven't said whether your 1100 is a 3" and your firing 2 3/4" shells. An 1100 magnum will not work with a low brass 2 3/4" shell. Another thing to check is if you have the o-ring and the metal gas ring in the right order on the magazine tube. If they are backwards it wont work.

Check chamber and clean lots of times plastic sticks pretty good.Isn't there a certain way that the gas system goes back together were you can put it together 2 ways? Its been 10 yrs last time I took one apart.

Broken O ring or put together wrong. Mine has a picture of how to assemble it but that is starting to curl up & could be missing. I've had mine for around 45 years & have had to replace the O ring.
