Winchester Mod 97, 12 ga., 32" barrels, full choke.
S/N 885005
Blue Book DOM 1941.
The bluing on the receiver is flaking. Like my Mod 12s DOM 1937 & 1938.
Was the M97 receiver leftover from the late 30's?

    Bill,

The Blue Book is in error (they copied Madis' flawed information).

Model 97 serial number 885005 was manufactured in August of 1932, which was in the exact time frame when the flaking bluing was an issue.

    Thank you for the info.
Even with the blung flaking on the receiver, this is a solid 95% gun.
