Unertl scope adjustments

I have an older Unertl target scope with external windage and elevation adjustments. The rear mount where the adjustments are has a little screw; does it need to be loosened before you make your adjustments. What is the purpose of the little screw.

Is this the screw you mean??

If so, it is a lock screw, BUT don't ever use it to lock the mircometers. LEAVE it loose.

That little screw serves a purpose to LOCK and UNLOCK the Adjustment Knob Loosen the screw a few turns than you can click that knob until you get the correct ZERO Then tighten the screw This will keep knob in place so your shooting buddy can't change the zero when you are not looking[:p][:o)] or if you are hunting with the rifle. I have seen people at gun show try to force the lock Knob to turn[:(!][V]

You don't have to worry about your buddy changing your knobs...when you
tighten that small lock screw, it will change the POI for you.[:D]

No kidding, don't use the lock screw. You WILL forget it's tight and try to turn the knobs, and stand a good chance of stretching/stripping the mount threads.
