H&R 700 trigger pull

can anything be done to improve the horrible trigger on this rifle? My brother owns an H&R "leatherneck" with a similar action, and similar nasty trigger. any help appriecated.

    Just a thought: you might talk to Timney to see if that trigger could be replaced with an aftermarket trigger. I have used timney's on a couple of Ruger 77 mk II's and gone from mushy, creapy 6 pound breaks to crisp 3.5 lb breaks. I love 'em.

    ain't no Timneys for humble brands like H & R. You can improve them with judicious stoning of the contact surfaces, but be very careful not to change the engagement angles, and remove no more metal than is necessary.The Reising-designed H & R rifles are very well made and shoot very accurately, but all suffer from dull triggers.
