Buy both! Seriously, though--the Ruger 22/45 is designed with the grip approximating the 1911 pistol, and is great for inexpensive practice to improve your ability to shoot the .45. The Buckmark is a good plinking pistol with an entirely different "feel". I'd base my decision on how each felt to me, and the largest part of the intended use. I feel you can't really go wrong with either. Personally, I own a Buckmark--but I wouldn't turn down a good deal on a 22/45.

Well I own one of each and find that the 22/45 gets to the range and into the woods with me more than the Brownie, the Buckmark stays in the safe no real reason for it I just like the feel of the 22/45 a tad more. Both shoot great and have been problem free, and both are nice looking guns.

Ruger with ajustable sights.Has been in production for 52 years. You will wear out before it does.parts are cheap, and easy to get,not that you will need them.Lots of aftermarket parts to spiff it up.Lots of books with infomation on them.Good resale value. They hit what you aim at.lots of different models to choose from.Good repair service from maker, not that you will need it.Tons of aftermarket grips, barrels, sights, scope mounts,triggers,springs,12 & 14 round pre ban magazines.More aftermarket parts for this pistol than the rest combind.Do I like them ? you bet I do. You will hear lots of claims from people that whatever their choice was is the best, but as previously noted, get the one thats best for you ... or get both! I wasn't able to make my decision from just handeling at the dealers counter, nor in just 1 afternoon of shooting ... it came after a few years of shooting, trading it off for something else, then trading that one for something else until I found the one that was just right for me. Now I've had a lot of .22 autopistols, including the Buckmark, 22/45, Colt Cadet ect., but I beleive I've setteled on the Ruger Mk II Stainless Target (of which I added the walnut target grips). I say I've setteled ON this one (not setteled FOR this one) because I've had this gun for about 6 years, and the others no longer interest me (there are other things to spend my "gun money" on)

If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

Both the 22/45 and Buckmark are fine guns. However: - There are more after market accessories for the 22/45 than the Buckmark. - If you are a 'do-it-yourself' type, the 22/45 is easier to work on than the Buckmark - The 22/45 functions better dirty than a Buckmark. The bolt on the 22/45 has more mass than the slide on the Buckmark and can plow through all the crud that can build up inside a .22. These means you'll have less problems with the bolt/slide not going all the way into battery with the 22/45 than the Buckmark. This goes for the S&W .22 pistols too.I would go with the 22/45 but the real downside to the 22/45 is those #$$&^%& grips. They feel slippery in my hands, but maybe that's just me.

Try a Buckmark with the Heavy barrel! Put a Red Dot sight on it and shoot, shoot, shoot!! A pleasure to shoot and also a good pistol to teach a kid with. My 12 year old daughter is rough on tin cans and paper at 25 yds. with one. She likes to shoot it too! Her other pistol is a RemXP100 in 7mmBR but it's a little impractical for just fun stuff. I also like the looks of the new S&W 22 autos, but can't bring myself to forgive them for selling out to the liberal left gun grabbers!!

What types of aftermarket accessories are available specifically for the 22/45. I haven't seen any so maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Buy the Buckmark--it's a great gun, and Bill Ruger is in large part responsible for the hicap ban. Don't give him a penny.

idsman75 - Most Ruger Mark II accessories will fit the 22/45 except the following: - Mark II Grips (obviously) - Ruger Mark II Mag release - Ruger Mark II Sear Spring - Ruger Mark II Bolt releaseFor example, the Volquartsen Mark II Accurizing Kit will work in the 22/45 except for the sear spring (its a different shape). Also Volquartsen's V-Comp will work on the bull barrel 22/45 as well as their scope mount, TL Sight and LLV.
