Dont bother with the "stainless," it aint. The receiver is just aluminum left in the white and clear-coated.Cruise the pawnshops/gun shows and find a used blue gun for $100. Bead blast it if you want it silver.

Antique Dr. Thanks for the tip on the 10/22 "stainless" receiver. They fooled me too.

Ruger makes a factory target rifle that is awesome, except for that laminated stock crap. It shoots real nice groups and it comes in blued and "stainless." I guess that stainless part only applies to the barrel.I got one for $279 on GB. Average price of target 10/22 build? Alot more. Hit my e-mail link and I will tell ya more.

Kadaver - You mentions you might build a 10/22 target rifle. The first thing I would do to build a target rifle would be to get the trigger pull reduced before buying another barrel. If you ended up getting a 10/22 target model, the factory barrel may be good enough for what you plan on using it for. The heavy trigger pull though will make accurate shooting very tough. Also a high magnification scope (I recommend a minimum of 16X) is needed to shoot tight groups at 50yds.

I'm building a target 10/22 myself, and first thing I have to say is that RIMFIRE SPORTS is right... The trigger pull is pretty heavy. It is manageable, but takes a bit of getting used to. If you are looking for a stainless barrel just to keep down the heat, I'd recommend a carbon fiber barrel. I put 300 round through my 10/22 last weekend. It was very accurate and the only reason it got slightly warm was because i was in full Arizona sun for a few hours. My combination has worked well for me... a blued 10/22 with Hogue OM stock, Carbon Barrel, and a few Volquartzen components. Still shopping for a scope though. All the above cost me about $300 though.. Email me at niklasal@hotmail.com if you want me to refer you to an inexpensive supplier.
