.375 WIN

I have a good occasion for a Winchester 94 Big Bore in .375 caliber. Does anyone has experience with this rifle? Would it be a good buy? In our area, the ammo for this caliber are expensive and hard to find. I assume it's because this caliber is not very popular. Is it possible that they simply disappear from the market? Would you buy a large quantity of ammo at the first occasion? Thanks for your help.

    I like my .375 Big Bore. I believe that the ammo has become one of Winchester's seasonal production items. As indicated above, you'd be wise to consider reloading for it. One source for brass is Black Hills Shooters Supply. An initial ivestment in brass and a set of dies would keep you shooting for a long time.

    In case you missed it, I think SaxonPig meant to state, "You should buy it if the price is too good to pass up". Never, and I mean never, pass up a good deal on a gun if money is not an issue for you. The ammo issue is usually mute, as someone always has the ammo, or will make it for you, or you can do it yourself, if you feel inclined to shoot it. I'm in a buying mood today, can you tell?

    Don't let a bunch of "mini-gun" shooters have any effect on you. I have a Marlin and a Ruger#3 and they are fine weapons in .375. And in this state (MO) they work just fine. I do hate it when someone thinks they are expert and have never fired or hunted with a certain cal.

    I have a .356 calibre Big Bore (Winchester Model 94AE) and I love it. Great gun! I've used it for just over 20 years. Yes, ammo is a it high, but it is a great hunting rifle. I practice with other calibres.I'd say buy the .375.Bonne Chasse!

    SIRS: I HAVE HAD A WIN 94 XTR BIG BORE 94 IN 375 WIN FOR 20 YEARS. I LOVE THE WAY IT HANDLES IN BRUSH TYPE TERAIN HERE IN MO. IT HAS 6 DEER TO IT'S CREDIT. NEVER NEEDED SECOND SHOT. YOU CAN HAND LOAD 200 GRAIN OR 250 GRAIN FLAT NOSE FROM SIERRA CATALOG #2900. TAKE OFF BARREL SIGHT AND INSTALL A LYMAN RECIEVER SIGHT IN FACTORY HOLES. ANY 94 SIGHT WILL WORK. GET A LYMAN RELOAD MANUAL AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN PUT TOGETHER FOR IT. FOR A THRILL TRY THE .375 BALL 93 GRAIN IN THE END OF THE CASE. WON'T FEED BUT WILL GO VERY FAST OUT THE MUZZLE. HAVE SOME GUNSMITH INSTALL A JOHN WAYNE BIG LEVER ON IT FOR FUN. WON'T TRADE MINE FOR LOVE OR MONEY.HORNADY MAKES A 230 GRAIN FLAT NOSE FOR THIS CALIBER.

    Sir, in the 1997 Handloader's Digest there is a great article on the 375 Winchester. this fellow had a Marlin 336 (375 Model) and loved it. Has some great load information in the article.
