Recommend a 9MM

I want to be able to shoot hot loads (+p+) from a 9MM. I'd prefer to stay in the frame size I have now (S&W 39-2) or more compact. I lean towards traditional double action, but could be talked into DAO if the deal was right.I look forward to your comments.Thanks,Rob

    Compact 9mm for +P+ I recomend a Kahr 9. My 2 cents

    I'm not the expert in this arena so I'm going to pose a suggestion in the form of a question. I have heard that Rugers are tough as bricks. Would a Ruger P-series pistol be able to handle +P+ loads on a regular basis?

    Rob, do you know what a c.u.p. is? Copper units of pressure. This is what will blow your gun apart in you hand. The S & W 39 was not designed for hot loads. Hot loads would probably work best in a 1911 frame colt, chambered for 9mm and or 38 super. And they are still available. Sig-Sauer also makes one. There are others, but I have seen guns blow up in shooters hands because they loaded them too hot. I have seen S & W , and Ruger cylinders blow apart hurting the shooter. The Desert Eagle may be your better bet in 357, 41, or 44 mag. these are at least built for hotter loads.

    Binder is right. If you are suggesting a steady diet of "hot" loads, maybe a different caliber is what you need. If you want a 9MM, stick with the brands suggested or a Taurus or Beretta even, but limit the +P+ to defensive use.

    Ruger's P-series 9mm's and their Police Carbines are designed for +P+ ammo--as is stated plainly in the Owner's Manual!

    just a little note on beretta 92s.....in the manual it states to limit use of +P and +P+ loads to very frequent use.

    I have a ruger P 89 and called ruger about the +P+, they said the gun will handle them.
    Guncontrol-The ability to hit what your aiming at.

    I have a Ruger p95 Polymer 9mm abd I shoot +P ammo in it with no problem! I love this pistol and I have had no jams and it is very accurate. Ruger gets a five star rating from me!!

    First, let me say thank you for all the input! I expected 1 maybe 2 replies. This was great! For clarification, I am aware of the dangers of hot loads in the wrong gun. It is what prompted this question. I initially contacted S&W and they state that you should not use +P+ ammunition in any of their guns. This led me to start looking, hence the question.Also, I do not plan to routinely shoot the +P+ ammunition. I have 200 rounds and following a little experimentation, plan to use it for my carry ammunition. I just want to make certain that in the event that it is needed, the gun I am using does not explode in my hand. I got four good suggestions here; Ruger, Springfield Arms, Kahr, and Sig. Honestly, I had not thought of the middle two. I have sent requests for information from Ruger, Sig, and CZ. I will post information that I receive here as I get it.Again, thanks!     Interesting topic. I flipped thru my owner's manuals from Browning, CZ, Sig, and H&K. Only H&K explicitly states that all the USP pistols are designed to handle +P loads. Hmm, H&K's overengineered and chunky pistols suddenly seem more attractive to me now.

    I'd keep the S&W 39, they are very nice, concealable pistols. If you are only going to use +p+ for carry, you will have no problem. The Smith will handle the few rounds of +P+ you may one day fire.

    If you have the money, I think a HK would fit best, but I will always love the p-series. It is extremely reliable, durable, and has very easy take down. My Glock is pickier than my P89 when it comes to ammo too.
