On an antelope hunt last fall my brother brought a new pair of Pentax 8x32 DCF WP. I was very impressed with the glass and they were far superior to the Nikon Monarchs that I brought. They are relatively compact and light weight as well. I was so impressed that I came back and bought a pair for myself.Good luck

Coonass, I use a pair of Pentax 10x50's. They may be bigger than what you are looking for , but are an excellent choice for the $$$. My brother has a pair of Leicas, They are asume, but are real high on the price side. Good luck shopping!!! thats half the fun, using them is the other half....

For my time and money, can't beat Steiner. Try the 8x30's. They are light, durable, and best of all- auto focus (no wheel to focus & break). They can be bought for less than $200.

Take a look at www.eagleoptics.com Their Ranger roof prism binos made for them by Celestron sell for under $400 and are the equal of any I have seen for $600. I have put them next to my wifes Leicas and only at the extreme edges of the day are the Leica optics superior. I use 8x42's for birding and hunting and they have held up well.

for stalking I use a pair of 8x32 leicas, they are howeverbig bucks. I recently picked up a pair of pentax 16x60's that I put on a camera tri-pod for spoting. They sell for 249.00 and I got them on ebay for 180.00. Even though you only say 3-400 yrds if you have the power it will be less strenuios on your eyes. But it is hard to beat pentx for the money
Remember,"your woman may not find you handsome, But atleast she'll find ya handy". I love that show..............
