Olympic Vs. Bushmaster... worth the cost difference?

There's no doubt in my mind that the Bushmaster is the better gun... given all the reports. I'm sitting and trying to decide which to buy tomorrow morning. I've got good prices on both. I'm trying to decide between the Bushmaster A3 Shorty and the PCR-5. The two are exactly alike in terms of features. The difference is in the metal and construction. I'm not a wealthy person... and I can barely afford the Bushmaster... but would have money left over if I bought the Olympic. Do you feel the difference in guns is worth spending that much more to get the Bushmaster? Olympic owners... ever have any problems? Anyone with both?christian

    I don't think I'd buy any rifle that was named PCR ... "Politically Correct Rifle" ... for the simple reason I don't want to be thought of as Politically Correct. If that's not a marketing ploy I don't know what is!

    I think a lot of people will tell you go with the Bushmaster, but ask yourself what are you going to do with it? Plinking at the range or out in the woods? Is the difference in cost going to be noticable in accuracy for the type of shooting you do? For me I just go out and do some occasional shoot and don't expect to knock the wings off a fly at 100m. I've got two Eagle Arms EA-15 and I'm sure they're probably not considered the highest quality of all ARs. But one of them has a 6 point buck to it's credit! I'd say buy the Oly and have a few extra $$ left over.GL

    I've got the Oly and cant see paying more for the same thing with a different brand name stamped. Mine came with a stainless 16"HBthat is very accurate. Were I to do it again I would get the 16" carbine with full stock and barrel having the front sight moved forward to equal the sight radius of the 20" rifle.

    This takes me back to when I asked for input about buying a Sig Pro or an Astra. I went against the tide and bought the Astra. The first box of ammo in... the ejector broke off. I was worried back then about a couple of $$$$$ and paid the price in having to return it, which I could luckily. I bought a Sig shortly after and became hooked.I'll be the proud owner of a new Bushmaster A3 tomorrow morning. Thank you for the replies.christian

    Christian,A wise choice, the Bushy will also have a better resale/trade value if you ever decide to do something like that with it ...

    It's actually a difficult decision. On the one hand there's cost difference and a friend with 4 Bushmasters... so I could always borrow one. I'm still swaying back and forth.christian

    Have you looked at Armalite. The new 180B comming out soon is a good option.

    I have two oly and find them to be very reliable. I have run 1000s of rounds without any problems. I just bought a rock river arms and love that also. The people at oly are very good to deal with and have a great website.

    I already ordered a Bushmaster M4 A3 Carbine. I may have a purpose in buying an Oly sometime soon... but the Bushmaster won my heart this time.I'll post a pic sometime soon... when it arrives.christian
