AMMO FOR 92F

Last year I purchased a Beretta 92-f and found it to be an excelent pistol. Then a friend informed me that it was unsafe to shoot +p ie: Gold Dot or Hydra shock in the 92. So far I've only loaded it with ball ammo (UMC, Blazer's or whatever decent jacketed round happens to be on sale) I like to visit the range as often as I can and would not make a habbit of shooting heavier loads (and more exspensive) but I'd like to know if I have the option in case I ever find myself in a situation where I must use the gun for self protection. I'd appreciate anyone who might be able to give me some info.

The Beretta 92 has to be the most abused handgun in the world, and still going strong. I doubt you are going to want to spend the amount of money it would take buying gold dot ammo to break that gun.

read the manual, in like the first or last page is says to limit use of +P and +P+ loads because the barrel was not designed for that amount of power, but i don't see why you can fire hydrashocks......are they +P?

shoot what you want in the 92, it won't break. The warning is CYA policy. If it does break, they will fix or replace for free. I have had two occasions to call beretta on a repair issue, they sent me free parts and extra parts both times. Gold dots will never hurt it, neither will hydroshocks.

"Limit the use" means you can use them, but not exclusively. I practice using standard ammo, but carry +P ammo for self defence. The army shot 1000's of rounds of +P ammo during their test with only "excessive wear" noted. It is safe to shoot it, but will prematurely wear down the firearm. There is no real danger of a kaboom using +P in the 92 or the 96 Beretta. Just use regular ammo when you pleasure shoot or practice, and carry +P for protection. I usually carry my self defence ammo for two years, then fire it and buy new ammo. During those two years, I shoot once a week using off the shelf ammo.
