Does the Boss compensator really knock down recoil, or would it do better to go with Mag-na- Porting, 7mm Mag or 300 Win Mag?

The boss does two things: It allows the barrel to be "tuned" for greater accuracy. That is, it allows you by twisting the boss to adjust the vibration of the barrel when shooting, to find a "sweet spot" where the vibration is adjusted to acheive greater accuracy in shooting. It also acts a a compensator to reduce recoil. The price besides the $$ price is much increased muzzle blast, and a longer, and in some situations unwieldy, rifle. It will not reduce muzzle velocity of your bullet, which to a small degree porting will.
