I have seen mounts that say "converts from STANAG to weaver". What is STANAG? a designation like nato? or some sort of manufacturer?

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I can't give the exact dimensions but it is a military mounting system used by nato and others to standardize scope and nightvision mounts.

Thank You Mobuck. Sooooo, what would a STANAG ar15/M16 30 round magazine be? Is it different than the standard military magazine?

From my ancient history file - STANAG stands for Standard NATO Agreement.

There are about a million of them, on practically every topic. They define all the common military items (from hardware to procedures) on which the organization runs.

Getting a bunch of countries to agree to common specifications (such as rifle caliber and width of scope rail) is the life blood of a very heavy and entrenched bureaucracy. They are absolutely necessary so that industry can respond with REALLY interoperable equipment.

The documents used to be in French and English-don't know now.
