I have a 1908 spanish mauser. Everyone I talk to is real vague about the rifle. All the webites I have visited give just a little history and thats it. I have made it a Deer rifle for my son. Can anybody give me real info like value all the way to bullistics? Or maybe a little of either one. Thanks bunches

Hey tallcowboy-What caliber is it? If it's a 7x57 Mauser which a lot of people in this country don't know much about, go to your local library and get a copy of Jack O'Connor's "The Hunting Rifle" and read his comments on the round. He thought a lot of it and describes his wife's rifle in that caliber and the results obtained. I get the impression that it's an excellent load for them deers.

Is that the .308? You don't mean that it is 7.62 x 54r do you?

Your caliber reference peaked some curiosity in me, as it sounded a little strange. Upon research I find that there is a Russian connection during the Spanish Civil War which makes this caliber possible. If it is indeed 7.62x54 it's ballistics would be similar to a 30-06.
