Chronic Wasting Disease - like mad cow disease, only this is affecting the deer herd in Wisconsin. It's been found in only one area so far, but the DNR is trying to isolate it so it doesn't get to the whole state. Their answer so far is to shoot all the deer in that area. It doesn't seem possible and I fear this is only the beginning. The worry is that it might spread to the cow population, and after all Wisconsin is the dairy state. There is no evidence that it affects humans, but there is no proof that it doesn't. Deer hunting and the cattle/cow industry are a big part of the Wisconsin economy. I know of hunters that say they will not go deer hunting or eat venison. Neighboring states should also be concerned.

Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!

Ahh, yes. Being a Cheeshead native I've been reading about that whenever I can. Last I read they've had some problems eliminating all the deer in the area in which they're trying to eradicate. They're also planning on testing as much road kill deer as they possibly can.

I have been reading articals from the PETA people in the newspaper. They are taking advantage of this issue to promote vegitarian lifestyles. If they only knew how tasty venison is.

As for what I think about the situation, I think it sucks.

i'm hoping we can get this under control. i heard they had a massive wipe out in colorado. it's sad, all those dead deer, and no damn pepper sausage. what a waste. i'm hunting northern wisc this year by hurley(my home town), i'm in madison now, and i'm afraid to even try down here. cody
