Rem. 7400 cycling problems

this gun will manually recyle loading and ejecting fine but when shot I have this problem.......it will fire and eject but when the bolt returns to the firing position it will not pick up and load another cartridge...Ithen have to manually cycle the gun to reload. Any solutions would be appreciated.

    The only possible reason for that to occur is that the bolt is not being driven far enough rearward to pick up the new cartridge from the magazine.

    Have the rifle thoroughly cleaned, with special attention to the gas system.

    Not sure of your caliber but my 30-06 never had a problem. I had been told of other 7400 having a problem similar to what you described so I always broke mine down completely and cleaned it well.

    this rem 7400 is clean as a whistle...I eeven reomved the orfice ball and cleaned it as well as the gas port. jokor3

    Try a different magazine, one from a 7600 if possible. Just a simple suggestion. One other thought, if you are using reloaded ammo try factory.

    Ronald J. Snow is right on using factory ammo. I always used factory ammo and headspace is critical with the 7400.

    Joker is the gun chambered for 270? If so we have had a few problems with this cal. in our shop for the past few years.The gas port is opened beyond the factory spec. you may have to send the gun back to the factory.You may have your local gunsmith check this or check the chamber for rust as this will slow down the action just enough to cause problems.May have to polish the chamber.Good luck!

    just a note of interest.....I've tried 7 different mags and have made sure the rails are aligned and I've tried both my reloads, rem. ammo and win. ammo.......same results. also this gun if I have not alresdy stated has been fired approx. 50-60 times iver the course of its age, which is 5 yrs. joe

    Sounds like the gas port needs to be enlarged a smidgeon at a time until you get reliable feeding and vigorous ejection.

    From your profile I see you are located in Florida and there are three Remington repair stations listed in your owners paperwork. It would be easiest to simply return the firearm and let Remington take care of the problem. You can call Remington direct at 1-800-243-9700.

    I CONTACTED REMINGTON THIS MORNING AND WAS TOLD I COULD RETURN IT TO THEM WITH A GUESTIMATE $ OF 160.00. ALOT TO SPEND ON A RIFLE THATS ONLY BEEN FIRED APPROX. 40-50 TIMES AND 10 OF THOSE WERE THE OTHER DAY. RETIRED THIS RIFLE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NO HELP FROM REMINGTON. ALL THE LOCAL REM. DEALERS DO NOT HAVE COMPETENT GUNSMITHS AND THEY WILL REYURN IT TO REM. THEN I GET TO PAY THEM ALSO.

    jokor3 sorry to hear you still have not figured out your problem. You never told us the caliber. I would be supprised to hear you are shooting a 30-06. If you can get this rifle working you will really like it for those under 100 yard hunts.
