Curious to know why I see no Kentucky Rifles for sale..... I own a Pennsylvania full stock brass and silver mounted rifle made in lower Pennsylvania by J. Philipi?in the 1790,s It has a single set trigger which is very rare. Have they totally disappeared? All I see are new made.......

I would guess all the really nice ones are in collections, as I have seen many notices in trade magazines like the Rifleman and Arms and Armour advertising the liquidation of someones collection. I sometimes see a nice specimen at a gun show but I am leery, as so many have been sold as originals that are newer than My Kimber .45.

J.T.; Have a question for you..Where did you get the date of manufacture of your Kentucky Rifle?...
I'm sitting here looking thru Satterlee and Gluckmans book of American Rifle Makers and Find Nothing listed with them...But in the Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifle by Henry Kauffman There is a Daniel Philippi, Listed as a Rifle gun maker fron Sunbury, Pennsylvania and Listed on the Tax List in 1826.. I have many books on Kentuckys and Plains Rifles, but only the one has any mention of your maker...Kentucky Rifles are still out there just waiting to be found...I've personally owned at least 50 over the past 45 years.. Some by well known Makers and others that are unheard of...Keep in Mind that the Local Black Smiths in times gone bye were known to have made Rifles and Pistols, but remembered by few these days...as the Guns they made were only a few and never made prominace as did Golcher and Hawkins and a few other Makers..Golcher and Hawkins are well remembered for 1/2 Stock Heavy Caliber Rifles...But got thier start making Full Stock Rifles in the early percussion era for the Mountain Man and Plainsman..Anyway I digress....I'm not sure that the information I've given you will be of any help...but thats all I can come up with...Best....
