Go big - You can use the extra when going for those longer shots.

If the scopes are of equal quality, go for the higher magnification.
Start at 100 yards using a blank piece of paper with a 1/4" black spot. Fire a shot then hold on that first hole and adjust your scope to group around that first hole. I hate to see these great groups an inch or so from the bull. The idea is to hit those squirrels in the eye.

One thing to think about on the highier power scope (6.5-20) would be that in low light at the high end of the power, you will get less light into the scope.
If you go with a 50mm objective then this will help. I have a 8.5-25 Leupold 40mm and in the very early morning hours I can't use the scope on 25x because the light is reduce to much.
I will be eventally selling this one and go with the 4.5-14 50mm, mostly because my hunting for coyotes is often right at day break. The 4.5-14 is a very excellent scope, I now have 4 of them.

If I had to have a new long range varmint scope tomorrow it woud be the 6.5X20 Nikon Monarch!! Excepionally clear and will handle all varmint needs very well. I think it had the highest rating of all scopes tested last year in an article in VHA magazine. My love of this scope comes not from reading about it but shooting and using them in the field. They are great!! GHD
