I need some solid advice on which receiver to buy. I have a metric type III pattern Imbel rifle kit. I see a bunch of receivers for sale, some steel (4140) and some aluminum. Any advice on which one and why. Need a source for the receiver and related parts. I am building a project gun and tips and pointers are certainly welcome. Thanks to all replies.

try www.falfiles.com for thir forum. General consensus seems to be that the best domestic is the DSA and best current import is the IMBEL. You should find enough info at falfiles to completely confuse and amaze you. They seem to have a lot of real good hands that are ready to help with ANY fal matters.

I just recently purchased an Imbel receiver from AIM surplus ($209) and had it installed on a G1 kit. Perfect fit, perfect function. Honestly, I can't see any justification to pay so much more for the various US-made receivers. Mine works perfectly. I have read, on falfiles.com, that there has been some trouble with the Entreprise receeivers that are the most expensive of all. Though it normally doesn't matter, an Imbel receiver might be the right choice for you considering that you have Imbel parts.

Avoid the aluminum receivers. I too was considering the one with the built in weaver rail until I read several reports about them coming apart. DSA has pictures posted on their website of the aftermath. Not pretty.

    Good luck

Imbel is the best and just about the least expensive.
I did build a WAC Aluminum in 5.56,but with the barrel enclosing the bolt like on an M16 or AR.
