I recently bought a Colt Custom Combat Commander in blue box. ( made in 1998)

LOOKS JSUT LIKE THIS ONE
http://www.GunBroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=333114749

Left side of the slide is marked COLT CUSTOM.

The gun shoots great , accurate and SUPPER reliable.

It SEEMS like its a bit nicer than most factory Colts I had.

My question is :

Do guns that come from Colts Custom Shop get any extra attention ?

Or just have special features?

Would appreciate any help on determinng value and vintage of this Colt Commander, .38 Super, slide marked Super Commander, serial number CSC5xx. Appears unfired, original wood grain style box and papers including request for history post card look to be dated around 1987. It is non enhanced, ring hammered, stainless with smooth black walnut grips.

    Thanks

I also have a Colt SAA pistol from the custom shop and it's my understanding that they receive lots of special attention in assembly, hand fitting and best of the best parts. You can't compare my SAA with the average Colt at the gun shop.

I know this will sound like a CYNICAL person and maybe I am, But I chose to think my comments on some things is just because I have been exposed to many years of HYPE advertising. I have many Colts and for the most part the older guns of any particular model are heads and shoulders better fit and finish then ANY of the production of guns made in the last 30 years . If you for one minute think That there is hand work and sorting through new parts to get the best fitting one for a gun you may be disappointed with the truth. At one of the many times that colt dropped the Standard production line oF SAA pistols ALL colt single actions were shipped from the custom shop. For many years in the later production of Colts TOP OF THE LINE Double action Revolvers They ran a two page AD in the American Rifleman with one page showing a Pistol and declaring it was an INVESTMENT on Precision on the flip side of this ad was one for the custom shop stating for a MERE $150.00 you could get Colt Custom shop to TUNE the trigger pull. [V][?][?] I am not trying to slam anyone's guns and pride of ownership is a GOOD THING[^] But if you believe some little old factory GUN SMITH is Hand fitting ever part of every gun that is stamped Colt Custom Then I Have some ocean front property In S.D. I would like to sell. The bean counters of many major companies know they can make more money if they mark and Item SPECIAL.
