Colt SAA Nickle Finish

I just got a nice modern ( I think 80's)Colt SAA in a trade with the factory Nickel finish, I've never owned a nickel "anything" or had a desire to. Question: is there a special way to polish or preserve the finish ? it looks like a few minor spots are trying to develop along the backstrap. Any suggestions on what to do or "NOT" to do will be appreciated. Thanks [;)]

If it's getting some flaking do not use Hoppe's #9 on it as it will start removing more of the finish.
