This was done by J.D. Jones who originated the cartridge. He called it the 300 Whisper. With the surging interest in the Whisper/Blackout the ammo companies are making the brass commercially available. It's not necessary to convert 221 Fireball brass any longer.
As stated, the original .300 Whisper cartridge was developed by JD Jones and kept proprietary for all these years. This was the .221 Fireball necked up to take .30 caliber bullets ostensibly for subsonic suppressor firearms. Most of us got around this stupidity by ordering .30-221 Fireball dies and loading for ourselves.
AAC (with a couple of very minor changes to the case) released the .300 Blackout along with a rifle in which to shoot it. But because of the poor anticipation of demand by AR15 shooters, the ammunition and component manufacturers weren't ready for the demand and public once again resorted to wildcat rigging their own cases by cutting down and necking the .223 cases which were extremely available and cheap at the time.
I think I have about 3,000 of these cases still on hand for several projects underway.
Best.
One would be the 30 AR Remington, and the other is the 300 OSSM. The prior was designed as a new cartridge platform, to give better ballistics than the 6.8 SPC, and 7.62x39.
The 300 OSSM, approximates the ballistics of a 30-06, with bullet weights up to 165 grains, from what I understand.
Unlike the 300 Whisper/Blackout, the bolt has to be changed for these, as does the magazines. That is something that is afforded by the 300 Whisper/Blackout, that I do not see mentioned in the above postings, that you only really have to change the barrel(or upper is the easiest way) for these, and you can use standard magazines.
