I am not completely familiar with these revolvers so I need to ask this question. How do tell for absolute sure if a old 3 screw has been converted to the newer style? Is it the clicks, how many would the old have versus the new? Can the converted revolver be loaded by just opening the loading gate or does it have to be slightly cocked back like a traditional Colt. Any information given would be helpful.[?]

New style just open loading gate and cylinder will rotate

Like had been stated, if it has been upgraded, there will be a transfer bar between the hammer and frame, and the hammer will not have a flat cace, but will be notches for the transfer bar.
Also, if it has not been changed over, it is only safe to carry with five loaded chamber's, and the hammer down on an empty chamber.
