what about post ban guns and hi-cap mags and bullpup stocks?

I have 2 mini 14's, one I bought in 1986 and one in 2001. I know I can use my high capacity mags in the 1986 one but can I also use them in the 2001? I bough a muzzlelite bullpup stock for mini 14. Can I put either gun into the bullpup or only the 1986 one? I guess I can thank Bill Clinton and Handgun Control Inc. for even having to think about such goofy questions. Any help onn thhis?

Saxonpig. thanks for the reply. So I guess theonly possible reason for having to worry is because of the pistol grip which is part of the bullpup stock? If true is that the only rreason for the law not allowing the bullpup stock on the post ban gun? Ever heard of anyone getting busted for something as silly as this?

But wouldn't using a preban high capacity mag in a postban gun kind of be somekind of violation in that would be one element of an assualt rifle?

Magazines don't make a difference. If that were true than we'd be up to our @$$e$ in pre-ban and post ban assault pistols. The only things that you can do to a gun to affect it's legal status is by changing the configration, as Saxon said. BayonetsFlash suppressorsPistol gripsFolding/Telescoping stockFull-auto conversion (obviously)Things like that-NIK

OK, let's see if I unstand this. You can put any mag in any gun and be legal. But if I take a post ban rifle and put it into a bullpup stock that is a violation of the so-called crime bill because now I have a pistol grip on the gun and the bullpup. Is that correct so far? How does all thhis apply to shotguns? and how are companies llike bushmaster able to produce and sell rifles with pistol grips on them even now?

Now, I'm no expert on this subject, but this is what i know on the subject.Pre-ban mags can be used on after ban guns. You can jazz up any PUMP shotgun how you like it, but can't to a semiauto shotgun. Those two I am 100% sure of. The assault rifle thing I'm not positive on, and don't want to give false info. I'll leave that to the pros on this topic.

The commercial bullpup stocks are not illegal according to Federal Semi-Automatic Assault Weapon laws (your local law may prohibit them). My question is: Why would you want to uglify your gun and give it a terrible trigger pull?Forget the aftermarket accessories. Sell your stock on Gunbroker and leave your rifles alone.Sorry, but sometimes you get "tough love" here on the forums.Neal[This message has been edited by nmyers (edited 03-02-2002).]

Ditto what nmyers said, check the thread where you asked about the Marlin Camp 9 specifically.

Nmyers & Gordian blade: I appreciate your feedback, but the concept of the bullpup is, to me anyway, really neat. I agree the Muzzlelite bullput is ugly and has a really bad trigger pull. But I see some great possibilities for changing that. I love to tinker even though I only have rough hand tools and no technical training. But even at that I think I can get rid of that ugly front sight on the bull pup, do a few other cosmetic changes and it will look pretty good. I also have a few ideas how I can replace that lousy trigger with a real trigger connected to a steel rod or cable, etc. If you were handed a bullpup that looked good and shot as well as the 12" longer rifle it came from I think you would really like it.

Hey, tr fox, it's your nickel. As the cliche says, "Go for it." If you come up with something good, who knows, maybe it could be an interesting start to a side business. Good luck.
