I been wanting a revolver for a while and doing some research Taurus makes some decent revolvers looked at some at my local gun shop ant they look good, it sound kind of interesting the 22 magnum, I want something fun to shoot but at the same time not to expensive and generaly 22 is not that expensive I know 22lr is cheap to shoot so how expensive is 22magnum?
I buy most of my ammo from walmart I think I seen prices but Im not 100% sure, also when it comes to recoil what wuold you compare to?
and the particular gun Im looking into is the model 971 has a 6.5" barrel and mostly is going to be target shooting so I would think the longer the barrel more acurate, opinions, sugestions?

Is there a current manufacturer for a .22 magnum auto? Is the AutoMag ll 22 magnum durable? Are ther parts available? Should I bid on an Automag ll 22 magnum? In the meantime I purchased a Taurus 941 5" and a Ruger Contenter SS Slab side. Did I do OK?

I want a .22 magnum, my wife says I dont ned any more guns, but regardless I'm getting one. Whats the best choice for the money?? I've thought about the Winchester 9422, Ruger 10/22, or the Remington 597. Looks I like the Remington, but I hear it jams a lot. Money I like the Remington also. Remington says they fixed the problem, but two dealers told me they didn't. HELP!!

Automag II was made by AMT, out of business for several years. Their assets were purchased by Galena Industries and the Automag II was again catalogued as recently as this year in the Gun Digest 2002 issue; but they also have gone out of business. The parts should be available for the next several years from the Gun Parts Corp., but will eventually become scarce. They seemed to be reliable and durable. I know of no currently made .22 Mag. semi-auto pistols, but I may have overlooked one that another contributor can think of. I think the two handguns you bought are both good choices.

I don't see any reason to buy a handgun in .22 mag. This cartridge was designed for use as a medium range varmint round. The slow burning powder requires a long barrel in order to fully ignite before the bullet leaves the barrel. You get dramatically reduced muzzle energy & velocity when it is fired in a short barrel (although you do get an impressive blast & muzzle flash).Save your money.Neal

nmyers,Thanks for the details; I've been wondering why my K22 (.22WMR) suffers from unburned powder keeping fresh rounds from chambering properly.I've had it about four months & must use a bore brush to clean the chambers every time I load the cylinder, otherwise the rounds just won't seat properly & the cylinder won't "lock up" at all.

I have had a 22 mag rifle for years and just love it , but never really cared for that round in a handgun for the above ststed reasons...and yes it has one hell of a muzzleflash out of a handgun... we used to sell the automag pistols in that cal. , kind of a fun gun , but the ballistics do suck ...never had to work on one much ,kind of a rare deal for amt !!!only bad thing is the price of the ammo...Im eager to try the new .17 (its a 22mag necked down to 17)????Good Luk !!!!...azgunnut2@yahoo.comd.a. stearns - gunsmith , gallery sales....

I have a new in the box 4"AMT 22 Mag. One reason I always liked 22 Mag in a short barrel is that the ballistics are close to a 38 in short range. Also have Marlin 922 M -test fired only 99%, auto rifle and case of shells. I am thinking of selling only because I just don't go shooting like I used to. AMT still is in business and has parts available today.

Thanks for all of the responses. My research indicates AMT is gone; first from CA then from ND. Gun Parts Co has little in the line of parts - hope they were well made for the current owners to continue usingI did buy a Taurus and am currently waiting for 30 days to pass so I can pick it up (SC law). Thanks again for all the help!!
