Ammo question for AK...

I've read here that Wolf ammo produces red goop in the barrel. What about Sellier or another inexpensive round? Anyone know a good source for 7.62? What do you shoot through your AK?christian

I shoot Wolf and other cheap brands, but I do clean mine after each outing. Never had any problem. AK's will digest almost anyything made in 7.62 x 39.

Pick up a copy of Shotgun News and Gun List magazines. You'll find a lot of adds for ammo and the prices are generally better than what you'll see at gun shows.

Shotgun News is available at most large news stands. The biggest problem with steel cased ammo such as Wolfe is it is lubricated to protect the chamber. If you let it get sand on it, it becomes very abrasive.Check out www.cheaperthandirt.com Most Wolfe 7.62 x 39 runs about $80.00 per 1000 rounds.

So if I avoid sand and clean the barrel/chamber after shooting... it should be fine?christian

i put 2000 rounds through my new SAR-1 last summer and had only 2 problems, first, 1 round (ONE) misfired, the primer burned but did not fire the round, and second, more important problem, i ran out of ammo.I have found that my AK will eat anything and function flawlessly, as it was designed to do in the first place. Perhaps another round may be more accurate, but keeping in mind here that we are talking about a military weapon designed to kill humans at 200 yards, not 3 inch paper targets

I'm going to try the Wolf... just five hundred rounds. I'm sure that a new AK can handle it. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than most. I priced the least expensive at outdoor world and found 500 rounds at about $199, and that's way too much.christian
