How did I do?

Yesterday, I stopped by my favorite gun shop and bought this;

1 Ruger 10-22 w/stainless steel barrel and synthetic stock

1 Hogue over molded rubber stock

1 25 round Butler Creek banana magazine

total price $315.00 out the door.

Did I do okay or did I get took?

I know I could have bought the rifle cheaper at Wal-mart but I felt better buying from Mickey since he is a good friend. He also has a range out back so you can test fire firearms or just shoot a new rifle or pistol before you get it home.

Bode

P.S. I did notice also that he had several boxes of 5mm mag. ammo and it was priced at $21.00 a box if anyone is interested.

Awhile back I bought a 1976 Winchester M-94 in VG for $350. Just a couple of weeks later I acquired in a trade another 1972 M-94. Not quite as nice as the 76, but IMO in Good + condition. Basically had about $100. in this one.
Yesterday I traded them both for a 1957 M-94 in VG condition. I'm pretty tickled. What say you?

I just bought a AMT .380 BackUp N.I.B for $175.00 + 7% sales tax + $20.00 Shipping = $207.25 delivered to my door from a dealer closeout. No FFL transfer because it's in state, just back ground check. I downloaded the form #4473 myself and scanned my drivers and CCW license and sent it to the seller. And that's all that was needed.

I just got a new DPMS bull sweet 16 for 860 including shipping, it comes with 2 30 round magazines, a sling, and a cleaning kit. I'm new to AR's but I did my research and it seemed like a good deal.

Do you think I did allright?

I didn't know you could do that... I thought the 4473 was for "over the counter" sales, with the exception being; sales at gun shows???.. Need another expert interpretation..

I was led to believe that FFL holders were required to conduct all sales on the "licensed premisis" regardless of what state they're in.

Something doesn't sound right about this! That dealer really has no way to be certain who is sending the info. 4473 states "over the counter". I think he better check his "hole card". When I transfer, I either know them them personally, or have more than one form of ID, plus NICS, or else transfer to another dealers FFL. Wasn't aware of any other way.

Nope.A licensee can transfer a non-NFA firearm to a resident of the same state that does not appear in person at the place of business. The purchaser has to provide a completed Form 4473 Part II (green form) with an attached "true copy" of whatever permits the purchaser has that would exempt him from the NICS check. The licensee then must forward a copy of the 4473 to the applicable chief law enforcement officer by certified or registered mail (return receipt) and delay shipment of the firearm for at least seven days after receiving the return receipt notification. Note that the CLEO does not have to approve anything. The licensee must keep the return receipt with the original 4473 as part of his records. So, it is possible, but it doesnt sound like all the steps were done in this case. First, the form really should not be downloaded from the internet for that purpose. Second, for us anyway, a simple photocopy of the CHL/DL would not suffice. It would have to have a notarized statement that the it is a "true copy." Finally, although not mentioned specifically, it appears the firearm was delivered upon receipt of the 4473 which is a violation of 27 CFR 178.96.Not many dealers will do this at all. It's unfamiliar territory to most, and definitely more of a hassle than just having the gun shipped to a licensee more local to the buyer.

I posted this to get a response on price, but I guess I should have told more of the story. The paper work has to go to Tallahasse. This is what the Gun Store I bought it from E-mailed me."We have the forms. We will need your ID. We will fill out the form and mail it to you. You sign and return it to us. We then send a copy to your Sheriff certified mail, return receipt. One week after we get the back the return receipt, we ship the gun to you." I downloaded the forms(all four of them) and filled them out and mailed them to the Gun Store before I received this E-mail, they said it was alright in a later E-mail.This is the second E-mail I recieved."We received your e-mail. Please add $20 for shipping. We will send thepistol registered mail, signature required, once the NOTC 4473 isfinished processing."I coped this from the BATF website:ATF will also provide each FFL with temporary approval to use photocopies of the 10/2001 version of the original ATF For 4473 Part I, including instructions, until such time as you receive a supply of original forms, or until April 20, 2002, whichever occurs first. When using a photocopy of the new 4473, you must provide your nonlicensed firearms customers with both the form and its instructions while they complete the form. The completed forms AND instruction sheets must be retained in your records for the time period specified in 27 CFR 178.129.

That ATF section you copied has nothing to do with non-over-the-counter sales. That pertains to dealers who have not yet received their new Form 4473 Part I (yellow form) for over-the-counter sales.
