Accidently Bought an SAR-1 Today

Just kidding... I couldn't help it. The wife is going along with the "accidently" for now. I was watching Red Dawn last night and got the itch. Good old GB was ready to scratch and I found a NIB with 6- 30 rnd mags.... so I bit.Anything I should know about the Romanian's? I heard a pin likes to work itself out... Any info is happily accepted.christianP.S. Told you I was a Gun Auction Junkie.

    Got one MAJOR complaint...Not enough money to buy ammo!My SAR-1 has functioned flawlessly through all kinds of rounds. I got lucky because mine is accurate like you wouldn't beleive. I'm no pro target shooter, but a friend of mine is and those were his words. One thing you do have to be careful with though, is the handle. I took mine apart to see how it ticks, then when i screwed the handle back on, i screwed to tight and the plastic piece which secures the bolt broke off. Not a big problem, i just put a washer around the bolt and it hold fine.

    Christian B.I think the Romanian's SKS is the one with the pin that holds the front sight on is the one you are thinking of ... from everything thats been said here the Romanian AK is problem free ... now HAVE FUN!PSYou told her "you accidently bought it" ... and SHE "bought" that??? ROFLMAO ... I doubt it, sounds like she's just playing along!

    Just as a side note, I saw an SAR1 at a gunshow yesterday for $550! The seller was will to make a deal for $499. Needless to say I went home with the $499 still in my pocket! Either way, you'll love your new SAR1. I'm thinking of adding an SAR3 to my collection one of these days.[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 03-03-2002).]

    Never underestimate the power of denial. Nah... I'm sure she didn't buy it, and I'll pay dearly when the next shoe sale happens at her favorite store.The pic of the one I bid on was that deep burgundy color... but the seller emailed me and showed me another color that was mine... a light wood color. I think I like it better. Still, is there a site that I could buy a pure black stock? Additionally, are there specific mags to look out for, because they bite? I'd hate to find out that all 6 mags are a rotten design.christian

    The only potential problem with the SAR's is that some have the front sight base and/or gas tube canted off center. Check out AssaultWeb.com or the other AK site for info on the SAR's.Either dump the stock for a K Var synthetic with a longer pull, or steel wool the glop on the factory stocks down so the finish is shiny and even.
