Hi, I would like to know if anyone knows the value of a Franchi spas-12 pre-ban?

Seems like the going rate is $1000 to $1200, most likely closer to $1200 though. The fixed stock ones tend to be a little more rare. Why type of safety do you have? The lever safety will be less desirable than the push button type as they have been recalled. Does it have a magazine extension? If so, plastic or metal? You might also want to check out this site. It's pretty good.spas12.com GL[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 03-03-2002).]

Thanks GreenLantern, I don't have one but was watching two people go at it for one at auction end yesterday. I was almost convinced that one of the people bidding were bidding against the owner of the gun when the price got up to $1175.00. I could not figure out why someone would pay so much for an assault shotgun. I know it is banned and no longer allowed to be imported. Why would'nt you just buy a Mossberg 500 8 shot or a Remington 870 8 shot. Is it possible to have a seller listed under another name and E-mail address?

Yeah, after I replied to your post I got to thinking about it a little more and if a guy wanted to sell one I think he'd start it about $1000 and it'd probably sell. If he just wanted people to look at it then around $1200, but I guess by the auction you saw they will go for close to $1200. That is if that auction was on the up and up.Personally, I kind of have to agree with you on wondering why someone would want one. Especially after learning how cumbersome it is to reload. But part of that is a feature it has. The ability to disable the magazine feeding. This was to allow loading a single specialty rounds when the need arose without having to unload the whole gun.But here's the kicker, I have one! I've always wanted one ever since I saw Terminator back in '84 (?) so I got one off an auction a couple of years ago. Hands down though an 870 or a 500/590 would make a wiser choice.[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 03-04-2002).]

Thanks for your reply GreenLantern, Is there anything you can add as far as an owner or seller of a gun to be enabled to run an auction up?

I think the only thing the seller could do is either have a friend bid on it just to raise the price or if the seller was able to register under an additional name. That would require another email address but that's not that difficult. It would be hard to determine that just by looking at the bidding history, but if one bidder might have had an NR rating or maybe one or two feedback if the seller really wanted to make it look realistic. Was it auction # 3211260? If so I don't see anything special about that specific SPAS other than the fixed stock. Most that I see for auction or at gunshows have the folding stock.[This message has been edited by GreenLantern (edited 03-05-2002).]

Yes, that was the auction! Thanks for the the input. It just seemed strange for that gun. Thanks for the education!
