rimfire pistol misfires

I picked up an Iver Johnson tp22 this morning as an impulse buy. I got it to the range and it misfired more rounds than it shot. Usually I'd just pull the trigger again and the gun would fire the round. What could be causing this? I've inspected the firing pin and it doens't appear to be bent, so I was wondering if the hammer spring could be to blame? I'd like to find out the deffinate cause before I order any parts. Thanks for the help.

Unless it's extremely dirty and gunked up it's the weak hammer spring.

Were you using Federal shells? I always have a lot of misfires and jams with that brand.

I was using CCI blazer ammo. I decided to just go for the gusto and replace all of the springs and the firing pin. It's an order gun so hopefully that will solve the problem and prevent any future ones.

When my daughter started shooting pistol, I had the trigger lighten on a 22 mag revolver. The smith lighted it too much and sometimes would not fire when used as double action, so he had to increase the trigger slightly. Still very light especially on single action. The gun smith advised me that CCI use a harder copper than most others brands.
