.35 WCF brass help

I'm new to the old calibers and was wondering if someone could me. What brass was the .35 winchester (not self loading) derived from? I heard that it may be a European caliber. A local gunsmith (PA)told me he could make me a batch but as it turns out he made them out of 30-40 krag brass and they are not even close to the correct size (scary because he sells 2 to 3 boxes a year). I only have a picture of the shells and demensions from an old book. I saw Western Scrounger sells a box at $76.00! Any advice on the caliber would be greatly appreciated. I have a 1895 Winchester and anxious to put it to use.

Good book to own if you get into playing with the old stuff.I would use that load data with a grain of salt, it dosn't mention jacketed or lead, IMR or H brand powder etc.

Good timing. .405 Hornady ammo is now being produced. Hopefully they can sell you brass only. I would trust the USA ammo before Bellif you can get it.
