I have a Colt 1911A1 that checks out for all of the inspector's marks and other stampings as a 1942 manufacture. The finish is close to 95-97% and is original. I also have a mag. that appears to be of the correct era as well as an US issue shoulder holster.

    What is the approx. value?

I Am am looking at a Remington Rand 1911A1 that has been reworked at the Rock Island Armory and stamped with RIA on the receiver. All of the markings and parts appear to be correct for the gun except for the stocks. What effect does this have on the value of the firarm? Regards: Vic D

wilson barrel is aftermarket-Decock by removing magazine and ejecting chambered round /or not, then carefully pull trigger while lowering hammer gently with your thumbremember to keep pointed in safe direction and practice with chamber empty before hammer down carry.chas

not a 1911 expert so i cant answer your barrel ? To lower the hammer you 1 release the safety 2 hold the hammer firmly 3 pull and hold the trigger 4 lower the hammer 5 release the triggerNote: practice this with a competely unloaded weapon as letting the hammer slip will cause the weapon to discharge

There are many techinques.Personally, I always put my thumb between the hammer and firing pin so if the hammer slips, it will hit my thumb and not the firing pin. Better ouch than bang.Another trick to release the grip safety is to pull the hammer back far enough to contact the grip safety, which will deactivate it if pulled far enough, then, while holding the trigger back, and with your thumb between the hammer and firing pin, carefully lower the hammer to rest on the firing pin stop. This way, you do not have to try to deactivate the grip safety with your third hand while using one had to lower the hammer and the other to pull the trigger.
