    Define stronger.
The 270Win is capable of launching bullets to higher velocities due to it's larger case capacity, but the 308Win is able to launch heavier bullets due to it's larger bore size.
For normal hunting situations their fairly equil.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

Looks like it's personal choice to you. I'd go for the .308 myself, but checking the info from the hodgdon data manual no. 26, both look pretty much equal, for all intents and purposes. The .308 is able to shoot larger weight bullets.

You have ask a difficult question, if you ask ten people you will get different opinions. For large game in North America a guide would say not to take anything less than a .308. I think it has an edge over the .270 due to the bullet weight you can give or take. But the .270 is a good cartridge and has a potential at becoming more flexible with the .270Win short mag. Time will tell! As for your 20ga shotgun try starting with a new Browning.

Since the .308 is but a stunted .30-06 and the .270 just a .30-06 on slim fast, they are about equal. The .270 will do more than the .308 in terms of velocity but the .308 will shoot heavier bullets. Why not get the real thing and get a .30-06?

BTW, is there a good SINGLE shot semi-auto?????

I would go with a .270. As for the shotgun get a Model 12 Winchester in .20 gauge. It's a multishot pump action.
