I picked up some lighter 300 grain JHP Hornady bullets .458 to load into the 45-70. Had some troubles finding data for this lighter loading, but found data that said 58.5 to 65 grains IMR 4064. So I loaded 59 grains, expect around 1800 fps. (Marlin 1895). Seems like a lot of powder. Do these numbers seem right to you?[8D]

56 grains of H322 under the Beartooth Bullets 405 LFN GC hard cast bullet. 1950 FPS in my Marlin with 18" barrel. This cast bullet is made specifically for the Marlin chamber. Do not use that load in any firearm weaker than the Marlin 1895.

Very important that you state what kind of firearm.
Loads range from low power trapdoor thru Ruger #1 or #3 rifles.
The Ruger loads would be dangerous in almost any other type of firearm.

I have the 16" 45/70 w/muzzle tamer. I have not been able to get
the answers I want about load data so I confine myself to factory equivalent loads (with 405 gr cast bullets). With these loads it is a pussycat, the muzzle tamer really works.
I didn't put the ***** in, gee talk about PC.
