Got to reading the question on the person wanting a 1911 Colt and it got me wondering. I have a 1911 Colt, not a 1911A1 but an original 1911 Colt with Marine Corp markings on it and I have been dying to shoot it. Should I or is the collector valve to great ?

First of all, what is the condition of the gun? Do all the parts match or is it something put together with stuff from several guns?
What is the serial number? This will determine year made and aid in confirming the identification of the gun. From this information, you can then start to make a determination of what the gun is worth and what you might want to do with it yourself. Then you can go from there.

The pistol is a honest one. All serial numbers match, etc. She is not mint as my wife's grandfather packed it in France during WW I. She seems fairly tight but, I have no idea on the value of it.

If all serial no.s match you might have a big chunk of History. Some of the other guys know more than I on the matter but the ones that are around arent for sale. Good Luck.

    rugster,
That is what scares me about shooting it. I really feel it is solid enough to shoot but, hate to do something to it that would hurt it.

The 1911 Colt was produced between 1911 and 1925, some 2,550,000 were ordered but approx 650,00o were made, if it has been arsenal reworked it is worth between 325.00 to 550.00 otherwise depending on condition it is worth between 375.00 up to 2300.00, 2300.00 if it were one of the first 114 made.

Shoot it, you cant really hurt the old 19ll,s and parts are still readily available for em.

OK....Let me just say this; If this pistol is a certain serial number range, it could be one of only 13,500 U.S. Marine Corps guns mfg. between 1911-1913, or 1916-1918. This would make it a very RARE gun! Value could be from $750 to $3,200, or more. Condition would determine this. If you wish me to verify by the Serial No., you can email me at: padams@aros.netIf you could give me an idea of condition, such as 70% or 90% or what you think it is, I could give you a "Ball Park" value to figure as a starting place.
