not familiar at all with these things. are the chinese ones any good, and what would one expect to pay for one? saw one at a pawn shop, looks to be in excellent condition, has detachable mag, wood stock, bayonet is attached.

    axlerfan,
I bought one a few years ago and it functions great. Think you could leave it in the back of a pick up truck for the winter and it would work come spring, but have a couple of friends whom have one also and they have had problems with thiers. Think it's the luck of the draw on the Chinese ones. Have been told the Russian's are much better.

Over 600 hundred million china sks's made not counting Russian or Yugo.I would say about 85.00 to 150.00.

I picked up an early chinese sks in 1986. Was amazed at the accuracy of it. Thumbs up on this one.......

I picked one up a couple of months ago for $100 in excellent shape. Very reliable and accurate. I am getting less than 2" groups at 100 yds with open sights using the cheap Russian ammo. Very fun gun with lots of goodies to throw on. GD

Yes I think they are better guns than given credit for. Mine shoots reliably, accurately and you can dress them up to look real good. You can buy ammo in bulk for a very modest price.

    Good Luck.

I too have been amazed by the Chi SKS. Of the three I've owned (Romanian, Yugo & Russian), it's the most reliable and accurate. Yes, it outshoots the Russian! People justifiably rip on most things made in China, but this has applied to my SKS. I paid $200 for mine two years ago, a paratrooper model in excellent condition. That was a pretty good deal here in the So. Cal.

I bought a chi-com SKS about 5 yrs. ago for $180.00, it came with an x-tra trigger group, a bayonette and web-sling. It is a post-ban,threaded and pinned barrel- chrome lined, in like new condition/ wooden issue stock w/ cleaning kit and colored after market front sightposts (3). Word to the wise is; "The Russian and Polish mnfr. guns are the best quality, but youll pay more $ for them." I would also advise whichever one you buy- clean the bore until your arms feel like theyre going to fall-off, and then clean it some more. Remember, 90% of all accuracy prblems are shooter- related! A cleaner bore always shoots better groups. Wood stocks are okay as long as you seal them against moisture, either with linseed-oil or polyeurethane. Make sure you take the gun apart to apply weather-guard to the inside of the stock as well. Hope this helps! Happy shooting! Buffalo Bob.......

I've had three. All Chinese and all shot very well, much better in fact than most AK's I've shot. A word to the wise concerning ammunition. Stay with the imported stuff and be very carefull about reloads. The SKS has no firing pin retention spring and during firing it can slap forward and contact the primer lightly. Foreign ammo namely Chinese and Warsaw Pact stuff takes this into account. US ammo and components are more sensative and could concievably slam fire and case multiple discharges which are fun in machineguns but a total drag in a semiautomatic.
