I have an Ithaca dbl 12 ga. My grandfather bought it used from a friends widow in 1937 for $10 I bird and rabbit hunt with it every year. Wondering how I could find out info on it. What grade, model, etc. Anyone know of a site?

Pretty simple, really. The serial number will tell us what year the gun was produced and that will allow us to determine the exact model. There should be a stamping along with the serial that will determine a graded gun.

I suspect, since you mentioned nothing to the contrary, that you have a field gun. Perhaps a Ithaca Lefever or Nitro. Further, I have a feeling that any decorations are roll stamped and quite minimal. Checkering will be rather coarse, but will be the real thing.

After 70 years with your family I think you will agree that it would have been difficult for your grandfather to have made a better buy. Even the less expensive Ithaca's were great guns. And with any regular care that old girl will be taking cotton tails long after you and I are here.

By the way... A serial of over 425000 will put the gun at 1925 or later. These guns are more desirable than older models in that the frames are considered much stronger than earlier models.
