Hey all, ready to build another AR. Trying to find another stainless lower. Does DPMS still build it, or can I buy one anyplace? Also looking for info on a reinforced or extra heavy duty upper. Want to free-float mount up a 24" super bull barrel. I've seen 'em for sale on here, buts it's been awhile. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help, Jim

Many types of AR uppers floating around the market, manufactured by many different companies. Are they all about equally reliable and of equal quality? Save for Colt, they all seem to cost about the same. Which, in your opinion, are the best. Are they all equally compatible with the many lowers I've seen for sale by many different manufacturers?

Most people will tell ya that Bushmaster,Colt,Armalite,RockRiverArms are all high quality. Some also like DPMS.Colt and Bushmaster have made rifles for the government.I think DPMS has also made Gov.parts.

The upper and lower sections of these rifles are designed to be interchangable so any combination of quality halves should work well.I believe they call this a "frankenrifle".Kinda like frankenstein ya know?

Check out www.ar15.com for a mind numbing amount of info on these rifles.

They will all fit and function fine EXCEPT for the front takedown pin on some Colts. These use an odd 0.371" dia pin and are for the "Civilian" guns.Bushmaster and DPMS make adapters to fit them both ways.I TIG weld mine up so no adapters are needed.

DPMS was originally a parts manufacturer for US GI replacement parts and the like. They have good tolerances and are well made.

CPERMD, got the lathe and mill yet?

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I think we have a budding gunsmith on our hands. Any chance of a member discount?

Sounds easy enough to put together the rifle I want. Because my gun funds are low (the market is killing me), I'm going to guy the lower now, the upper later. I think I've settled on the Bushmaster lower (with CAR stock) and RRA flat-top upper. Thanks for your help gentlemen.
