I have been watching the Cobra auctions and noticed that the stainless guns seem to have an almost chrome finish. Would a gun in your hand look more of a satin finish or the lights in the auction pictures be giving the chrome effect.

Hi, I just bought one two months ago in stainless with a 6 inch barrel for $340.00. The condition was good not excellent, I don't know what you mean by ultimate stainless. Any way this was from a shop so I hope this gives you some idea.

"Ultimate" Bright Stainless is polished to the point of looking just like it is chrome. Here's the interesting facts: The "Ultimate" was discontinued in 1992 and its last Manufacturer's Suggested Retail price was $470.

The Matte Stainless guns were discontinued in 1998 and their last MSR price was $485.

Collector prices for the "Ultimate" should be about 10% higher on average over the Matte finish gun, according to the pricing I have seen. However, the most recent edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values shows the "Ultime" about $25 cheaper than the Matte gun, for whatever reason. The Blue Book also seems to be quite low as most of the NIB Matte Finish guns are selling between $650 and $700. Shooter quality guns go for less.

The 2 1/2" barrel "Ultimate" was only made from 1990 until 1992, and there were only a few made by comparison to the 4 and 6 inch guns. The 8 inch was only made for one year and is rarer still. The Blue Book shows these at $475 for a 100% gun. For the 2 1/2" barrel, this would considered low. A more realistic figure, based on what is happening in the market would be $550 to $600. If NIB, it could be about $100 more than this. It is an extremely fine "carry" gun with smooth action and its a .357 magnum! What's it worth to you, is the question. Hope this helps!
