Trap shooter 20 years ago

I am wanting to get back into trap shooting and have found a whole host of shotguns now on the market that should fill the bill but I would really like to do this right the first time. When I quit trap shooting (due to work and organization) I was shooting a BT-99 and enjoyed decent success with improvements seen each month. I quit shooting, sold the gun and now am mentally ready to pick it back up. I see that the BT-99 is still very popular (with a lot more options) but I read where Ruger is building a Red Label single and a single is what I want to shoot trap (due to physical limitations). I hunt with a Red Label(in short intervals) so my question is ,"Can you have Ruger build a combo brl. set /over-under/single for trap and hunt? For $2000.00 or less, what is the best bang for the buck? Could someone build me on paper the ideal trap gun on a 2000.00 budget and have a quality trap gun with adjustable this and adjustable that and have something worth something if things don't work out with my back handicap? Thanks......... xrogersb@pld.com

Not quite the answer to your question but I purchased a red label 20 ga. in a sporting clay model. This model comes with 30" barrel length and Briley choke tubes. I use the gun to hunt dove and quail more than I shoot at clay targets and a 26" barrel would be great for that purpose. I was told that the barrels would interchange but should be sent back to Ruger to insure proper fit. Any way, the original purchase, the new barrel and the shipping and handling ran in excess of $2,000.

I think the Ruger single barrel trap gun, as it is currently manufactured, has a MSRP of $2900, I have never seen one other than the catalog picture and do not know what you could actually buy one for. It comes in 12 ga only, I think. LOL with your perfect gun quest.

Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

I shot a BT99 for many years until back problems forced me to give ip
trapshooting. I looked at the Ruger trap at the Grand last year.
After looking at it, I would not buy one of them. Wood to metal fit
left a lot to be desired. If I were to buy another trap gun I would
seriously look at the new SKB trap combo. It has about every adjustment you could hope for. Then again, there is always the used
market full of variations of the BT99. Maybe you would want to go
over to trapshooters.com and search for "Ruger Trap Gun", a short time
ago there was a lengthy discussioin on them.
