cast Luger replica

I have come across what appears to be a full size, equal in weight cast replica of a Luger pistol. It is painted black and has only the marking 40 stamped on the side of the breach housing. there are no moveable parts, and the barrel is only drilled about 1/2 inch in. It seems to be an exact size and detailed replica of equal weight to an actual firearm. I am trying to date this item, and perhaps find a value on it.
Thanks!

I believe they first came out in the late 1940's. I recall when I was a kid, right after WWII, cast Lugers and SSA's were highly sought after by us kids. The originals were silver colored, but most of us painted them black to make look more real. Those were the days...

Yep...I had one as a kid. They were cast aluminum, and advertised in the back of comic books back in the late 40's. If I recall correctly, they cost about 7 or 8 bucks back then.

I used to play with one of those when I visited my grandparents house in the 70's. It had been my dads, he was born in 43 so late 40's early 50's would be about right. I may go visit grandpa and see if I can find it. I've often wondered if it was worth anything myself.

Lytle Novelty Company made these shortly after WW11 they made 1911's, Luger's, Broomhandle Mausers, Berettas etc. The company was in California(Pre Peoples Republic). I had some of these when I was a kid but I had the real ones from my uncles, was not allowed to play with them.
