I can suggest a Ruger GP-100, it fits all of your criteria. When you say smooth trigger do you mean the pull or the trigger face itself. Some say the Ruger's trigger pull needs work out of the box but that may just be personal preference. If you're talking about the trigger, then a new GP-100 would work fine for you and you'll have plenty of money left over.
A Colt King Cobra or Smith 686 are great choices too but they'll probably cost more than the Ruger but I think you'll be able to find either for ~$500.

It may be a little out of your price range, but I would look for a Colt Python. If you save a little more and look around before you buy you should find one close to your price range. They are a super nice gun. You won't be disappointed.

I would recomend the Colt Trooper Mark III. In your price range and smooth.

Try to find a Smith & Wesson 4" model 66, its exactly like the model 19 you liked so much, but made of stainless instead of carbon steel like the 19. You can probably find a nice one for about 400 bucks. You could use the extra 100 bucks on ammo. I have seen them from time to time on this auction.
If you want a little larger frame, try the model 686 "L" frame. It can be had in 6 or 7 shot versions.

$650 for a nickel 19 seems kinda steep. As mentioned, look for a Modle 66 or 686. You can find either of them used for around $350 or less. Even if you go for a new 686, I don't think it will be more than $500. Do a search here on gunbroker and see what you come up with.

If you are interested in a S & W 66 4" S/S with a trigger that breakes like a carbon rod -- e-mail me for all the details. The price would be much less than your $500. Lanny cherlan@pld.com

S&W M66!! S&W M66!! S&W M66!! Great firearm, my all-time favorite handgun. It can even make it appear as though I have some skill!

Several recamendations for Smiths but not one of the venerable Model 27. (Mod 28 is same frame without the polish job and not nearly the tuned fit - but a tad cheaper also)
It's the same frame as 44 Mag so it a fair bit larger that the 19, if you don't mind a larger frame, it is a superior weapon and shooter. I have one with a scope mounted and can shoot through the neck of a bottle and blow out the bottom better than 1/2 the time - when I miss the neck the whole bottle goes.

    S&W 66 or 686. I just got a 66 and love it.

I second the GP 100. Spend $10 on a trigger spring kit, and you are good to go! Great pistol, I love it!

NO! You may not have my guns! Now go crawl back into your hole!

Go with the Ruger or a S&W 686. I got lucky and bought a S&W 586(same as 686 only blue) at a very good price and it is a sweet revolver. One of my shooting buddies has the Ruger and I personally prefer my Smith but you should be able to find either one, in your price range. There are several listed now. There are also a couple of colt King Cobras listed also.
