What you have most likely, is a stuck gas piston. My guess is that it is stuck because it was fired with corrosive ammo and not cleaned. The piston is now rusted in place. I have seen this before. The way that I have gotten those moving again is a solid blow with a rubber or plastic hammer or mallet. Place the rifles butt on the floor with the barrel pointing up. Insure the safety is in the off postion. Stick the cocking handle in a downward motion, forcing it to go in its normal rearward direction. Usually one good blow will do the trick. Disassemble as usually and thoroughly clean your gas tube, port and piston. And make sure to clean your gun after shooting and before leaving it set for several years.

a slight bit of marvel mystery oil for an overnight soak and the rubber mallet suggestion should clear things right up.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I own a mak-90 and am a big fan I agree that the piston is probably rusted and locked shut. Spray some wd-40 on it, let it sit over night to naw the rust away then take a rubber mallet and lightly tap it a few times. If it remains stuck clean up the old WD-40 and spray it again, let it sit over night and try tapping it loose again. It should come free. You dont want to force it loose as you could scar the gas/piston port and cause permanent damage. When you break it down clean it thoughorly to remove anything foreign.
