I just purchased a Romanian SAR-1 and want to know what are the best made 30 round mags. I just a mag that was made in Hungry just to have a spare.

Now I want to stock up on the best built and most reliable mags.

Also, how do you feel about the drum magazines?

I've handled AK mags since 1986. What you'll find is that there really isn't that much difference from one country to the next. Sometimes saving a few bucks to buy the used ones is a poor investment. I've seen those that must have been used to drive in tent stakes or hammer something. I guess I'd have to say that the Polytech AK mags were the best. The ones with the 3 view ports were nice, but the ones with the view ports and the chrome follower were the best.

Other than those, they all are about equal. They all work and hold up to normal use, just not as hammers driving in tent stakes into frozen ground.

As for drums, the Chinese ones are the most user friendly. The Russian and Romanian ones are the same as one another, load one at a time from the top. The Chinese ones can be loaded all at once and be left loaded indefinetly without damaging the spring.

Im sure some will disagree but I bought a lot of USA brand banana 30rd mags for spares for my AKs and they all work great but two of them. I sent them back as they have a lifetime warranty and they replaced them both they work great. I would not trade them for my old ones but they work. Hope this helps.

    Good Luck.

You cant beat the military mags. AS mentioned above the polytech mags are great. I have some of the ones with chrome followers and rnd count holes on the back, and they work flawless. The european mags with the rib on the back are excellent also. I have never had to return any of these mags, unlike the USA brand.

I have 6 Polytech 30 rd. magazines with the Chrome followers. These are great. These are very tough magazines. If I can (figure out how)post a pic to show the difference between them and some others I will.

I didn't see your question about the drums the first time around. I have a 75 round norinco and a 100 rd norinco and a top load 75 rd russian. I have had no trouble with any of them but prefer the norinco's. I leave them loaded all the time as you can release the spring tension while they are being stored.
