Anyone know where I can find quality pre-ban 20-30 rd mags for my AR-15? Should I get metal or plastic? I've heard Colt has the best ones. Is that true?

I bought 3 "AR-15" mags online. Plastic bags marked "AR-15/.223". Mags are not marked. I tried them in my Colt M4 and they didn't fit. Looked for bent sides or anything else that would keep them from fitting....they look fine. Also tried my Sig 556. Think they might be "Outlaw".....any ideas? Thanks

I have had very good luck with Colt Marked 20 and 30 rounders even though they were not acutally made by Colt, but the base plate is markes as such. I have also had good luck with several of the other
USGI mags from various companies. The only duds I have ever had were from Parsons and USA Mags.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll get a few Colt mags. Thanks again.

What about the thermolds/orlite(sp?) that I've seen so many places for cheap? They're usually advertised as being used by the Canadian or Israeli military. Worth it?

I don't know about the thermolds, but the mag that came with my Bushmaster is a piece of junk.

Colt, Adventure Line, and Sanchez all work fine in my Olympic Arms PCR. It came with an Eagle 30 rounder that didn't work worth a damn.

    Thanks, Grizztribefans@sssnet.com

I hate to tell you guys this.
99.9% of USGI mags are interchangeable.
Floorplates don't ID a mag well except for Colt 20s.
In the military, when in the armory and assigned the lovely duty of cleaning mags,we would strip them down, throw the floorplates, follwers springs and bodies into separate piles and then clean and CLP them.
Then reassemble the mags from the pile of parts.
There is a ZERO chance the floorplate and body went back together.

Don't waste your money buying ones that say "COLT" on the floor plate, Colt never made them anyway. They were made by one of the military contractors and Colt put their name on it later. I would however recommend the military contract mags in good to new condition. I sell lots of mags and the ones I use in my own are the contract mags. Colt mags are fine, but they usually bring a premium, but they shouldn't. They are no different than the contract mags, they just cost more. In fact when it comes to used ones, the Colt ones inevitably look more worn because everyone in the military thought they should use the Colt ones too. If they had the option, they grabbed the Colt marked ones (thiking they would work better), so they usually look the most worn. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

What about Thermolds and the other plastic mags that are out there? Does anyone have any experience that they can share?
