What is the most reliable pistol ever made? and what tests were done if any many thanks

Has any one fired over 5000 rounds with out a malfunction, and what was the longest between cleanings? Thanks to all

Sorry I have not, it would take quite a weapon though,I will be watching this post to see if anyone has and the type weapon. And how they kept count of rounds fired. Id bet on the Glock!!

I have a copy of Shooting Times that did a review of the Ruger P97 where they fired 5,000 rouds witout a single malfunction.In the same book they did a review of the Sig P220 and experienced 3 malfunctions.It also noted how accurate the P97 is.It is a copy of Shooting Times Annual .45acp and .223 Autoloaders Buyers Guide.Hope this Helps

I forot to mention that they fired 10 different loads from 180grain to 230grain and from FMj to +PJHP.Thats a quality gun if you ask me!!

I'm sure I'll be slammed for this, but IMNSHO, the most reliable pistol isn't a pistol, but a revolver. I've never had a wheelgun jam, stovepipe or fail to feed. I'm not a LEO nor have any reason to believe that it's likely I would ever need more than five or six rounds in a CCW firearm. Just my bias, but I'd rather have fewer shots and be certain that my firearm won't malfunction than have 10 or more with the possibility of failure at the worst possible moment. At any range where I'd have legal reason to defend myself, I can hit where I'm aiming with sufficient precision to accomplish that.

I'm very much in agreement with Iconoclast. I am not a wheelgun maven--I think the 1911 is the best combat handgun ever made, but the reliability of the revolver cannot be overstated. I cannot recall a combat situation where one needed to shoot 5,000 rounds. A slightly dirty or dry gun that can go through 50 rounds without an issue would be more than adequate. I expect more reliability even in practice, but whether I need that is an open debate.

I am much more proficient with a semi-auto than a revolver, but I trust a revolver more.

I have seen numerous Glocks that have gone in excess of 5,000 rounds. These were rental guns at a public range so it was relatively easy to keep track of, number of rentals X number of boxes of shells. These guns were lucky to get wiped down much less cleaned.
Malfunctions did occur but they were operator induced. Glock * limp wrist = failure to feed.

IMHO, I believe the most reliable semiauto pistol to be the Browning HPs. I have several and have never had a jam or misfire in any of them. My first I purchased in 1977 and the most recent three years ago and they are being used constantly in IDPA.

E Williams, I can attest to the Ruger P97s reliability. The only time it has ever jammed on me was when I tried to use Wolf .45 ammo, but that stuff jammed every other .45 it was tried in except an old revolver that shot .45 ACP. I'd say the Ruger has misfed less than my HK USP, but jams are so few and far between on either it's not really saying much.

I have a Ruger P89 that to date has run 7500 rounds without malfunction. That includes reloads and everything from 115gr to 147gr.

My USPc40 has gone 2300rnds so far.

I usually clean after every trip to the range and rarely fire more that 500rnds per session.
