I am asking this question for a friend,I have a Colt1911a1 stock pistol. It will shoot any type bullet I put in it.A friend came over this past weekend and we done a little plinking I took my Colt and a box of Remington 185gr hollow points. No big deal as I have ran federal hydra shoks through it before. He was amazed that the gun was stock and shot hollow points. To me Its what I expect from the gun, but he could not believe it was stock right out of the box.My QUESTION is any stock 19911a1 should shoot hollow points out of the box right? Thanks in advance as I will print your replies for him, even if Im wrong.

Government Models from the early day (Pre-War and early Post-War) were set up for hardball only, just like the military pistols, but Colt Government Model pistols built in the last 20 years or so are throated and should feed hollow points reliably. I might add that the Remington 185-grain JHP bullet is shaped like hardball so it feeds better than many other hollow points.
To me, the reliability standard has always been whether the pistol will feed empty cases mixed in with live rounds. That is also a good way to check for flinch.
