Bobski, did you check out cdnn yet?
20GA= .615
24GA= .579
28GA= .550
36GA= .506
410GA= .410
These values are from a chart in the Dixie Gun Works catalog. And anything smaller than 50GA (.453) is usually expressed in the actual bore size, such as 410= .410. That's how your .22 or .38 or whatever would probably be "gauged". I think.
Noli Illegitimi Carborundum
10ga = .775 or 77/78 cal
12ga = .729 or 73 cal
14ga = .693 or 69 cal
16ga = .662 or 66 cal
18ga = .637 or 64 cal
20ga = .615 or 61/62 cal
24ga = .580 or 58 cal
28ga = .550 or 55 cal
32ga = .526 or 53 cal
64 Maynard = 18ga
55 Maynard = 28ga
11.15x52mm = 55ga
44XL = 61ga
410 bore = 68ga
360 CF = 99ga
9.1x40mm = 101ga
9mm RF = 105ga
9mm CF = 105ga
32 RF = 142ga
310 Rem = ?
7mm RF = 223ga
6mm RF = 353ga
22 RF = ?
20cal Wingo = 582ga
The above are taken from COTW, to calculate it your self, Bore diameter X = a sphere with a volume of Y. Lead volume Y weighs Z pounds. 1/Z = gauge size. (Pure lead weighs .4105 pounds/cubic)inch
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.
The formula for a sphere is 4/3piR3.
